How to Order a Filomuro Door: Correct Dimensions Guide

A Filomuro door does not work like a standard door. The aluminium frame is embedded in the wall and becomes part of the structure. This completely changes how you measure and how you place your order.

What is the Filomuro system and why dimensions matter

The Filomuro system is a door with an invisible frame: the aluminium frame is fully embedded in the masonry or plasterboard wall. Precisely because the frame disappears into the wall, the dimensions must be calculated correctly from the start. There is no margin for error after installation.

The three dimensions you need to know

Before sending any order, you need to understand the difference between:

  1. Wall opening — the physical gap in the wall, with no door or frame installed
  2. Frame extremities — the space the aluminium frame occupies inside the wall opening
  3. Door leaf — the actual size of the panel you order, which is mounted in the frame

These three dimensions are always different and the order is placed based on the door leaf size, not the wall opening.

How much space does the Filomuro aluminium frame occupy

SideSpace occupied by frame
Left50 mm
Right50 mm
Top50 mm
BottomReferenced to the finished floor

The wall opening is reduced by 100 mm in width and by 50 mm in height compared to the actual door leaf dimensions.

Calculation formula

The formula is simple:

Practical example

Standard wall opening: 800 × 2,000 mm

Correct order: door leaf 700 × 1,950 mm

What dimensions we can produce

📐

We manufacture any dimension to order within these limits:

  • Door leaf widthup to 1,400 mm
  • Door leaf heightup to 3,500 mm

We are not limited to standard sizes. Every Filomuro door is cut to match your opening — whether it's 812 mm or 1,037 mm wide, 2,413 mm or 3,128 mm tall.

Quick calculator — enter your wall opening

Enter dimensions to see the door leaf size

Door leaf = wall opening − 100 mm width − 50 mm height.

How to correctly measure the wall opening

Width — measure at least at two points: at the base of the opening and at the middle. If there are differences, take the smaller value.

Height — measure from the finished floor, not from the rough subfloor. If the floor finish is not yet installed, estimate the thickness of the parquet or tile.

Wall depth — important for selecting the correct frame profile. A 10 cm plasterboard wall requires a different profile than a 25 cm brick wall.

Common ordering mistakes

1. Submitting the wall opening size instead of the leaf size
The most common error. Now you know the difference and the calculation formula.

2. Measuring before the finished floor is installed
If the floor gains another 1.5–2 cm, the door height changes. Communicate the rough height and the type of floor finish to our team.

3. Not specifying the opening direction
Left or right, pull or push. The wrong direction means the door opens the opposite way.

4. Ignoring the wall depth
The Filomuro frame comes in variants for walls of different thicknesses.

5. Not checking whether it is a new opening or a replacement
If you are replacing an old door, measure the actual wall opening, not the dimensions of the old door.

Information you need to have ready when ordering

  1. Wall opening dimensions — width and height (in mm)
  2. Wall depth — in mm
  3. Wall type — masonry, plasterboard, AAC (autoclaved aerated concrete)
  4. Opening direction — left/right, pull/push
  5. Desired finish — colour, texture, surface pattern
  6. Number of doors — if ordering multiple

Frequently asked questions about dimensions

Can I order non-standard dimensions?
Yes. We produce Filomuro doors to order, up to 3,500 mm height and 1,400 mm width — any dimension is possible within this range.

What happens if my measurements are wrong?
The Filomuro team verifies the submitted dimensions before confirmation. Production only begins after the correct dimensions are confirmed.

Is the aluminium frame visible after installation?
No. The frame is fully embedded in the wall. Only the door leaf panel remains visible.

Can I install a Filomuro door myself?
Installation requires technical knowledge and specific tools. We recommend having it installed by a certified team.
